Tour Map

The Rainbow Mountain Peru Tour Cusco reaches 5,200 meters above sea level. Trails are marked and suited for people in good physical condition, multicolored mineral layers visible across the terrain the whole way up. Photography and observation of the natural formations make up a big part of what the day is about.

The route passes high-altitude valleys, open plains, and rugged mountain ground. Pace stays steady to handle the altitude changes without burning out mid-route. Guides cover the natural formations and safety procedures along the way, nothing excessive, just what's relevant on the trail.

Meals and rest stops are included to keep energy up through the day. Andean climate at that elevation shifts, the tour accounts for it. Colors and mineral patterns of Rainbow Mountain are the main draw, the geology behind them gets explained on the ground.

We will pick you up from your hotel between 4:30 and 5:00 A.M. You can also meet us at our office at 5:10 A.M. We will depart Cusco at 5:15 A.M. and drive about two hours to Cusipata, enjoying scenic views along the way. At arrival, we will have a hearty breakfast at a local restaurant, giving time to rest and acclimate.

After breakfast, we will drive one more hour to the Rainbow Mountain trailhead. A local entry fee of 30 soles is required. The hike starts at 4,700 meters and climbs gradually to 5,100 meters. The ascent takes about one hour. At the summit, we will spend approximately one hour taking photos, enjoying the views, and learning from our guide about local culture.

Optionally, we can hike to the Red Valley for a one-hour descent. Entry fee is 20 soles. Those who prefer can return by the original trail instead. After the hike, we will return to Cusipata for a buffet lunch around 1:30 P.M., enjoying traditional Peruvian dishes and a chance to rest.

We will begin the drive back to Cusco around 2:30 P.M., which lasts about two hours. We may drop you off at the airport, bus terminal, or Plaza Regocijo in Cusco city center. The tour concludes around 4:30–5:00 P.M.
