Tour Overview
From USD 15.00 Per PersonThe city tour Cusco starts at Qoricancha, Inca and colonial architecture layered into the same walls, history sitting right there in the stonework. Walking the main streets puts local traditions and the daily rhythm of the city into context. Good ground to cover before the route heads out to the sites around Cusco.
Sacsayhuamán comes first outside the city, stones up to 9 meters tall, Cusco spreads out wide below from up there. Qenqo, Puka Pukara, and Tambomachay follow after, each one different in function and place within Inca history. These aren't just stops on a list, each site carries its own weight culturally and historically.
Transport between sites runs organized and guides break down what matters at each location without dragging it out. Moving through the day at a measured pace also helps with acclimatization, altitude handled gradually rather than all at once. Photo stops and time around the city close out the experience at the end.
The City Tour Cusco starts either at 9:00 a.m. for the morning session or at 1:00 p.m. for the afternoon session. We meet at the Super Tour Machu Picchu office (Portal Nuevo 270, Plaza Regocijo) and walk a short distance to Qoricancha, located at 3,399 meters. We explore its combination of Inca and colonial architecture and learn about its role as a sacred Inca center. Guides provide detailed explanations of the temple’s history and cultural importance.
After Qoricancha, we travel by comfortable vehicle to Sacsayhuamán, situated at 3,701 meters. We admire its massive stone walls and walk along terraces to understand its ceremonial and military significance. Next, we visit Qenqo at 3,520 meters, exploring ritual chambers and carved stone passages. Guides explain the symbolism of the tunnels and the ceremonies performed by the Incas.
The tour continues to Tambomachay (3,580 meters) and Puka Pukara (3,650 meters). Tambomachay features ceremonial fountains used by Inca royalty, while Puka Pukara served as a military control post. Short walking trails allow us to explore both sites and observe architectural details and natural surroundings. These stops enrich our understanding of Inca engineering and spiritual practices.
The morning tour concludes around 2:00 p.m., while the afternoon tour finishes at 6:00 p.m., following the same route and activities. Both tours cover approximately 15 km and combine vehicle transfers with short walks. They provide an easy to moderate experience, perfect for learning Cusco’s history and acclimating to the altitude.
