Tour Overview
The Sacred Valley Tour VIP Maras Moray feels like a mix of epic views, peaceful villages and ancient Inca history. This Sacred Valley Tour From Cusco will give us a fun and relaxed way to see the best spots in one day. Super Tour Machu Picchu operates at a slow pace on this route and therefore the altitude does not seem challenging and the journey is not uncomfortable. The entire atmosphere is to take up the valley at a slow pace.
We are going to traverse broad valleys, color marketplaces and spectacular archeological locations which demonstrate how intelligent the Incas were. Each of the stops unites us with the scenery enveloping the Inca Trail and the Andes epicentre. With a friendly tour guide, things are always clear, simple and interesting hence there is never the feeling of overwhelming. The day is honest and unforgettable as people can appreciate local crafts, excellent views, and authentic Andean culture.
At the end we will leave behind us with a deeper attachment towards the Sacred Valley Of The Incas. The landscape, narrations and individuals are what make it memorable as we continue to experience it even after the tour is over. This Sacred Valley Tour From Cusco sets the tone for exploring more of Cusco in a fun, easygoing way.
We will begin at an early time in Cusco when the city gradually becomes illuminated with pale colors of the sunrise. The day started with a peaceful mood as the streets were still and the air was refreshingly cool. It is at this point that we start with a scenic drive into Sicred Valley where mountains, farms, and traditional villages start to appear.
Our first stop will be Chinchero, which is a town upholding the ancient Andean customs. We go to a local weaving group wherein weavers show how they spin, dye and weave wool using plants and minerals as the natural color. The techniques are direct offspring of Inca tradition and are still present in everyday life. We also see the archaeological relics of the area including terraces and stone constructions representing a significant ritual center.
We proceed and visit another of the most interesting Inca places in the area, namely Moray. The vast circular terraces are almost buried in the ground in the shape of an amphitheater. The individual levels produce slightly different temperatures, and this enables the Incas to experiment and change the use of different crops to suit different climates. It is a location where nature, engineering and agriculture meet.
It is only a few minutes drive to the well-known Maras salt mines. Tens of thousands of little salty pools flow down the hill side and make a golden patchwork of white and gold. Each pool is filled by a natural underground spring which is saltwater flowing. To harvest the salt, the local families use very old-fashioned ways, which are managed carefully. It is a cultural, as well as, a visual highlight.
Then we head to the valley to Urubamba, to have a traditional lunch prepared with the fresh local products. The town is situated close to the lovely Urubamba River whose waters flow down the middle of the Sacred Valley. This is the best time to take a moment, sightsee and refresh up before the afternoon.
The trip goes through to the town of Ollantaytambo, one of the Inca towns best preserved today and still in existence. We examine its stronghold which has huge rocky terraces up the hill. This location was a military, religious and agricultural hub. A stroll along the narrow streets, original water ways and stone houses gives the actual feel of the way the Incas used to live.
The last site we visit is Pisaq that hosts one of the greatest archaeological sites in the Sacred Valley. It has its agrarian terraces running through the mountains which reveals the ability of the Incas to farm on steep land.
By the end of the day, we had come back to Cusco with a better understanding of the history, living culture and beautiful scenery of the Sacred Valley and the day was a complete mix of nature, archeology, and local customs.
