Tour Overview

The Choquequirao Trek will take us to one of the more demanding and impressive trips in Peru. We’ll cover mountains, cliffs and the Apurímac Canyon. We will have the opportunity to interact with local people in villages and visit Inca sites.

On Choquequirao Tour 5D/4N we’ll see agricultural terraces that were used in the inca times, thousands years ago. The paths will go very high up, knowing this is important  to prevent altitude sickness. The  trouble will be rewarded with emotional panoramic views from mountains.

When we reach the Choquequirao  remains, the atmosphere will make us feel like we're stepping into another world. Also we can visit the sundecks, forecourts and all gravestone structures while our  stint  companion is talking about the history of the Choquequirao  remains.

The  trip also takes us through cloudy  timber, aqueducts, and wildlife spots along the way. We will drink plenitude of water, enjoy the fresh air, and just soak up the  implausible  terrain. Every step will show us why these trails have stayed so special for centuries.

By the end of the Choquequirao Trek, we will return to Cusco feeling proud and inspired. The Choquequirao Trek leaves  unforgettable  remembrances of mountains, Inca remains, and adventure. We'll carry stories of  sundecks, gravestone structures, and  stirring views for a continuance.

We'll start super beforehand at 4:00 A.M. from our  accommodation in Cusco and hop into our private auto. The drive to Capuliyoc will show us stunning Andean  geographies and small  townlets along the way. We'll breathe in the fresh mountain air and get agitated for the adventure ahead.

Once we reach Capuliyoc, we will hit the trail for our first stretch to Chiquisca town. The hike will wind through hills, showing us streams, cloudy forests, and native shops. We'll stop to rest, take  prints, and enjoy the views.

Lunch will be in Chiquisca, giving us time to recharge before heading toward Playa Rosalina. We'll continue hiking through gentle  pitches and shadowed areas, soaking in the decor . Arriving at Playa Rosalina, we will set up our  canopies, relax, and enjoy  regale under the stars.

By night, we will be cozy in our sleeping bags, ready for the coming day’s adventure.

Day 1 Statistics:

  • Distance cover: 12 km
  • Highest spot: It reaches 3,500 meters where Capuliyoc stands
  • Lowest spot: At Chiquisca, the ground dips down to 2,800 meters above sea level - the lowest point around here.
  • Stops: Capuliyoc → Chiquisca → Playa Rosalina
  • Fitness level: Moderate

Right after morning meal, start walking out from Playa Rosalina. One tough climb waits today - part of the hardest stretches on this journey. Upward all the time toward Santa Rosa, path cuts back and forth through thick green cover where tiny birds dart and chirp. Stops happen now and then just to drink water, also catch sight of rushing stream below.

After reaching Santa Rosa, a break comes first. Then onward up toward Marampata the path climbs. Green thickens along the way the higher we go, bringing fresher air and wide-open sightlines across the Apurímac Canyon. Once at Marampata, time slows for food and rest

Later on, once lunch is done, the trail carries us forward - two extra hours winding down into quieter land where the air seems slower. Closer now, the ground shifts underfoot, giving way to stillness that settles around like dust after wind. Our shelter waits ahead, tucked beside Choquequiraw, off the known paths. Tents go up without rush, heat rises from food served in bowls, bodies unwind by firelight - all of it held within nightfall before tomorrow's walk to ancient stones.

Day 2 Statistics:

  • Distance cover: 15 km
  • Highest spot: At its peak, the land climbs to about 3,800 meters above the ocean
  • Lowest spot: it hits a minimum of 2,900 meters high near Marampata.
  • Stops: Playa Rosalina → Santa Rosa → Marampata → Choquequirao
  • Fitness needed: Somewhere in the middle but not beginner stuff.

After breakfast, we will set off to explore the Choquequirao Inca stronghold. The point is huge, with  sundecks,  conventional platforms, and massive gravestone walls. We'll wander among ancient structures and learn about Inca culture from our companion.

We'll take our time taking  prints and enjoying the views of the Apurimac Canyon. The dry season makes the colors pop, showing the  sundecks and mountains in  inconceivable detail. We'll  tromp through forecourts and  retired corners, imagining life in Inca times.

Lunch will be back at the campground, giving us a chance to relax and  sputter about the day’s discoveries. In the  autumn, we will have free time to rest or for a little walking. Regale will be  delicious, and we will prepare for the next  long day..

Evening at the  campground will be peaceful, with stars above and the flume echoing vocally. This day will be the highlight of our  journey, filled with history, adventure, and  stirring decor .

From Marampata, we will climb a bit toward Santa Rosa, where we will break for a break and  respect the flume views. Lunch will be coming to the Apurimac River, with calm waters and beautiful surroundings.

After lunch, we will continue hiking to Chiquisca. Arriving there, we will set up  canopies, relax, and enjoy  regale together. As night settles in, sleep comes easily inside the thick sleeping bags. A soft calm wraps around us when darkness arrives.

A stretch of soft trails waits ahead, mixing steady steps with cool glances at rushing water. Movement keeps time with curiosity as paths unwind beside narrow channels. Each footfall adds a quiet rhythm under open sky.

  • Lowest spot: 2,900 meters at Chiquisca

  • Fitness level: Moderate

Later on, once we’ve eaten, things start moving. Heading out means walking uphill to Capuliyoc Pass. Each step opens a new look across Apurimac Canyon below. Pausing now and then works well - sips of water help, the scenery does too. Moving slow keeps everything steady.

Footsteps slow near Capuliyoc - time opens up for pictures, breath, stillness. After that stretch of quiet, descent begins, winding lower toward Cusco's edge. Midday food comes on a ridge where wind moves soft between bites. A vehicle waits later, ours alone, engine humming low as roads pull us into the sprawl.

By nine in the evening we reach Cusco, tired but satisfied. That stretch of five days burns into memory - Choquequirao’s quiet stones, air so thin it bites, landscapes that cut across the spine of the Andes. Each moment stays.

A stretch of five full days unfolds across trails, ancient remains, nights under open skies. Hiking leads into forgotten walls standing quiet among trees. Nights settle in places where views catch your breath without trying
Moving along at a steady pace. Though thin air adds strain, we manage well - frequent pauses and sipping water help hold the rhythm. T
Starting low near 2,800 meters, the path climbs steadily upward. Reaching nearly 3,800 meters, it ends close to where the Choquequirao stones lie scattered.
Besides meals each morning, there's food provided at midday too. Dinner shows up automatically during the opening stretch of the stay - four evenings straight.

Of course, tents and basic camping supplies are covered by us. Still, sleeping bags tend to be left out - better pack your own or pick one up through rental.
A little extra money isn’t required. Yet when the help feels warm, tossing in a few coins can show real appreciation.
A few warm clothes work well when it gets cold. Boots made for trails keep your feet steady on rough ground. If the path is tough, bring poles - they help balance. Sunscreen protects skin even on cloudy days. Carry enough water to stay refreshed along the way.
Better talk to a doctor before doing anything. When you move up high, going step by step while sipping water makes things easier on your body.
