Tour Overview

The adventure of Abode of the Gods has a flawless introduction where the cobblestones of Cusco change to the roughness of the city outskirts. Be it at the Plaza de Armas or we fetch you in your hotel, the objective is to make the beginning of your day hustle-free. At the bottom, an introduction to your ATV is functional and friendly, and you can feel yourself within minutes of practical training that the initial nervousness is just erased and replaced by an exhilarating rush of adrenaline as you ride into the open Andean landscape and cool mountain air.

When you are walking in the trails, the horizon changes abruptly unveiling the Apukunaq Tianan. The grandiose stone figures are literally growing out of the ground, a daring combination of contemporary art and ancient Andean iconography which is both overwhelming and calming. This is not a quick visit; you will have time to explore these giants, and get the idea of the size of the piece as your guide tells you the stories which give these stone characters their soul. There is a scarcity of times when the landscape itself appears to speak.

The ride goes on through a landscape of sweeping, silent scenes, beautiful fields and mountains in the distance that put the city life a hundred years away. Their soft country lanes provide freedom of choice and view, to inhale the grandeur of the high country, and then the easy descent. You will feel more than the excitement of the ride by the time we get back to Cusco, you will be refreshed and have been able to see something of the Andes as artistic as it is exciting.

We will meet at about 8.30 a.m. at your place of stay or at Plazoleta Regocijo, a central easy to access location that allows us to forget the city life. The ride up to our base at Tica Tica is fast and enjoyable and the ride takes you through some of the quietest morning streets with the Andean light just beginning to fall upon the hills around. When we get here, it takes a few minutes to introduce you to your ATV, but it is practical and to the point- you are taught how to start, steer and stop without any unnecessary technical explanation. The atmosphere is forgiving and welcoming and no one is left unprepared to roll out into the open.

At the moment when the massive stone sculptures are revealed, we will leave the ATVs and take a walk around. These sculpted monsters are well-endowed with personality and size and provide a creative, relaxing area to stroll around, take some pictures, and read the tales that gave these characters their life.

The journey back is equally beautiful, as it follows the hills and empty farmland to portray the rural charm of the Cusco periphery. We are going to have a brief rest at the base, and then we are going up to the city centre, which will take us about 1:00 P. M. It is the ideal half-day trip that will make you feel revitalized and will have ample time to have a lunch or carry on in the exploration of the city.
