Tour Overview

The Humantay Lake Tour will take us to the stunning turquoise waters of Humantay Lake Peru. We shall leave early out of Cusco, and drive through the Andes. Boggy valleys, snow-white mountains, and classical highland towns will be on the path. The trip will enable us to take Andean views, and acclimatize to the hike to the Humantay lake.

We shall start out by hiking to Humantay Lake. The road will pass through mountains and streams and through high-altitude grasslands. We shall take frequent breaks to make photos and enjoy a panoramic view of the other surrounding mountains. Each of the steps will plunge us into the beauty and the calmness of the Andes.

At the lake, the blue waters will be shining in the turquoise reflecting the snow-capped mountains. Our tour guide will narrate the history of how the glacial came to be formed and how it is culturally significant to the locals. We will have some time to sightsee, take photographs and travel the pure mountain air. It will be a journey that will unite adventure, nature, and Andean tradition in one day.

Upon exploring Laguna Humantay, we will walk back to the location of the starting point and our vehicle. The motivation will bring us back to Cusco, where we will cross through highland scenery and the local village on our way. By early evening, we will be back in Cusco, finishing an amazing Humantay Lake Tour with beautiful views and local culture.

We will start the Humantay Lake Tour early with hotel pickup in Cusco between 4:30 and 5:00 A.M. The south bound journey across the Andes will demonstrate hilly valleys, highlands geographies and village like communities. In the process, we will have a glimpse into the traditional Andean life. The ride will allow us to rest and prepare for hiking to Humantay Lake.

At about 7.30 A.M. we will take our breakfast at Mollepata. It will provide us with energy throughout the day with fresh fruit, hot drinks, and local Andean dishes. We shall also warm up our legs and have fun in the small town then move on to Soraypampa which is where the hike starts.

The climb to Humantay lake will be approximately 1.5 to 2 hours. The hiking path is not strenuous and it is easy to walk through, with beautiful scenery of snowed mountain tops and valleys. On the way, we may see such wildlife as condors or viscachas. Each of the steps will bring us pleasure in the Andes and the fresh mountain air.

Humantay Lake will surprise us with its turquoise waters and the Humantay Mountain which is capped by the glaciers. We do have time to look around, take some pictures and just relax in the serene environment. Our guide will also tell us stories of the lake and the reasons as to why the lake is so important to the local people known as Quechua. The landscape is going to be enchanted with all angles.

We will hike to Soraypampa, enjoying new scenery on the way after having had a pleasant time on the lake. We will go to Mollepata where we will have a buffet lunch consisting of local food and a salad meal. It will be an opportune decision to take a breather and a break before going back to Cusco.

The road home to Cusco will be laden with last mountain sightseeing and mountainous scenery. We shall get in early in the evening, about 6:00 to 6:30 P.
